The Alchemy Construct team worked closely with Steriliser Validation Australia (SVA), experts in this area of the healthcare system, to deliver benefits for both design inputs and detailed staging of the site works. This was critical given the very sensitive hospital environment.
Alchemy was engaged to manage the delivery and installation of a temporary, mobile CSSD unit (a first for Victoria) to enable the hospital to continue their sterilisation process on site while the upgrade was constructed. Following provisional services and basement store logistics works, the portable buildings were craned into the carpark area and commissioned, permitting subsequent full strip-out of the CSSD. The CSSD fitout was carefully planned for major demo and subsequent structural and services works in a very ‘live environment’ fitout, given they’re directly adjacent to the operating theatres. The refurbishment of the CSSD included the construction of several sterilising rooms complete with the integration of all new sterilising equipment.
Alchemy took particular care with the staging and isolation of construction works, with ongoing traffic management assisting the numerous daily visitors and hospital operations in a busy loading area. All works were planned well in advance, crucial to the 24/7 hospital environment, with carefully executed service isolations and cut-ins so as not to affect adjacent wards or the operating theatres.
