Project Update — Straight From the People It’s Built For | Victoria University Centre of Excellence in Paramedicine

“I didn’t know I could become a paramedic as a mature age student, because I didn’t finish school. But I found out that I could.” – Michelle, Victoria University Paramedic student

That’s the kind of moment this project is really about: the students who’ll walk through the doors once it’s finished, and the Alchemy team working hard on-site to get them there.

The Victoria University Centre of Excellence in Paramedicine, taking shape at Vic Uni’s Sunshine campus, is Australia’s first facility purpose-built to simulate the exact handover between ambulance and emergency department — real scenarios, real pressure, none of the guesswork. It brings together education, healthcare and innovation, including AI-supported research, to help shape a highly skilled, future-ready paramedic workforce.

We recently had a chat with a number of paramedic students to hear what the space means to them.

“Handovers are complex and nuanced, and it takes a lot of practice and real-world experience to do that. A sim would get us closer and closer to having a feeling of a real interaction with a healthcare professional.”

“I feel very grateful. It’s a privilege.” – Rory, Victoria University Paramedic student.

It’s a big year for our team, too. Construction is on track to be ready before the end of 2026 — turning hard work on-site into a facility the next generation of paramedics can actually walk into and learn in.

Nerves, purpose and a fair bit of excitement — it’s all there in the video below. Have a watch.
