Wyndham Cultural Centre Redevelopment

A space where art, culture and community combine

The Wyndham Cultural Centre has been serving the Werribee and western suburbs community since 2001. More than just a venue, it has been a hub for reflection, celebration, and connection – a true home for the arts and theatre. The centre features a 492-seat theatre, art gallery, library, and back-of-house amenities, supporting year-round productions and community events.

Alchemy was engaged to revitalise the Cultural Centre, creating a space that better meets the needs of exhibiting artists, audiences, facility users, and the wider Wyndham community.

The works included an internal upgrade of the foyer with a refreshed box office, refurbished gallery spaces, a new visual art collection space, relocated staff administration areas, and upgraded bar and toilet amenities.

Additional asset improvements were also delivered, including a new direct library entry from Wedge Street, theatre seating repairs, and servicing of the roof and HVAC units.

Eastern Health Community Mental Health Facility

Transforming a new generation of healthcare.

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest metropolitan public health services, providing world-class mental health and well-being support through its programs.

Encompassing mental health assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, the new Community Mental Health Facility enables patients to receive most services locally, close to their families and wider support networks.

Alchemy was engaged to complete the fit-out of levels five and six and reception areas of the new 4550 sqm facility in Ringwood. Each floor is fitted with an array of spaces including open-plan workstations, waiting areas, medical consulting rooms, meeting rooms and kitchenettes. With an emphasis on good design, wood paneling, biophilic elements and murals were utilised throughout to bring a sense of harmony and wayfinding.

The stuff that building dreams are made of

An exceptionally finished design at Rix Road – the stuff that building dreams are made of! When you see the finish and architectural detail in this project, it is truly stand-out.

To plan this design, CohenLeigh Architects built a miniature model to confirm that the multiple radius and the curvature on the structure would be possible.

From there, the design was pushed to the limit to compute and detail the individual members for fabrication of the screen. The screen was fully fabricated by our talented friends GB AMOS Metal Engineering and was broken down into sections for transport.

Laser cutting then took place on the flat arches and bending at multiple radius’ to fit the screen. Multiple cranes were required to connect the sections of the screen during the erection process. The project was finished with kiln dried spotted gum battens and soffit lining.

Dingley Reserve Pavilion

Creating a community hub for local sports and connection in the heart of Dingley

Supporting local sporting groups to grow and thrive, the Dingley Reserve Pavilion is a vital addition to the southeastern suburbs and it will serve as a dynamic hub for sports and community activities.

Alchemy was engaged to complete the works on the partially finished pavilion as part of a collaborative effort between the City of Kingston, the Australian Federal Government, the Victorian State Government AFL Victoria, Cricket Australia, and the resident clubs. The project involved integrating and refurbishing the existing change room facility with the construction of the new two-storey pavilion, as well as creating new flexible multipurpose spaces, kitchen facilities, a kiosk, and public toilets.

Designed by dwp, a standout feature of the pavilion is its elevated open terrace viewing platform, which offers spectators and families a comfortable and safe space to enjoy the action. This design element enhances the spectator experience while promoting greater community engagement during events.

Royal Melbourne Hospital Stroke Unit

World-class care, delivered without disruption.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital’s neurological care is considered some of the best in the world. So, when it came to refitting the hospital’s Stroke Unit, we knew we had to be meticulous, efficient and focused.

Building in a hospital environment required staged works to secure and isolate construction at all times. We refit the Level 8 shell of the 1B Building to deliver 31 new dedicated stroke unit beds, including ten high dependency beds. We also modernised the unit’s reception and waiting areas to ensure the most comfort possible during times of potential distress.

Throughout construction, we kept emergency pedestrian pathways clear at all times. And we adhered to the appropriate service isolations and safety provisions required of us, so that hospital staff could continue their work night and day without disruption.

Expanding capacity, elevating care

This project was more than a refurbishment – it was about expanding healthcare capacity and ensuring The Alfred remains at the forefront of medical innovation and patient care.

As one of Australia’s leading centres for infectious diseases, HIV, and public health research, Alfred Health’s program plays a critical role in responding to pandemics and emerging health threats. This project unlocked space for growth, bringing together expert teams under one roof and ensuring they have the infrastructure needed to meet increasing patient demand.

Delivering this project within a live hospital environment demanded precision, planning, and an unwavering commitment to minimising disruption. By working closely with Alfred Health, we ensured a seamless transition, keeping momentum high while maintaining the integrity of hospital operations. This was construction at its most purpose-driven, where every space delivered has a direct impact on patient outcomes.

Point Cook Community Learning Centre

Point Cook’s newest learning hub.

No place welcomes and enriches communities quite like the local library. So we were particularly energised by the prospect of redeveloping the Community Learning Centre in Point Cook, Victoria.

The job was to improve existing council operations and expand services to all locals. This included creating more areas for learning and activities and building new meeting hubs and study spaces. These were to be divided into ‘noisy’ and ‘quiet’ zones, and, of course, this division needed to be effective both spatially and acoustically.

With help from the Victorian Government’s ‘Living Libraries Infrastructure,’ we were able to build a new silent study space, group study rooms, and a large activity room.

We also re-landscaped the surrounding gardens in a way that connects them thematically to nearby wetlands and gives a tranquil sense of arrival for the Point Cook community.

Royal Melbourne Hospital ICU Pod

The ICU fit-out at the Royal Melbourne Hospital was built on a strong foundation that places Melbourne Health as a leader in the provision of ICU facilities.

The new facility provides 10 intensive care beds, an isolation room, nurses station, associated amenities and ancillary spaces. The works are similar to the other ICU Pods on the same floor that were undertaken as part of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre project.

Alchemy’s experience came to the fore to fully co-ordinate the provisional services in readiness for highly specialised ICU equipment to be installed in a ‘turn-key’ fitout at completion, including medical gases and mobile nursing stations for life support services.
