Malcolm Graham Pavilion

The City of Yarra’s redevelopment of the Malcolm Graham Pavilion sought to encourage and enhance participation of females in sport and active recreation by specifically delivering modern gender-neutral change rooms with some really robust finishes.

The refurbishment to the existing pavilion included an upgrade of two player change rooms, public toilets and minor works to the social room, kitchen and laundry. The construction of a new adjoining building included two additional change rooms, a referee’s room, a first aid room and covered spectator area. It also required significant sewer works associated with replacement of the existing septic tank that provides grey water irrigation to the wider reserve. ESD aspects included use of low-cement concrete, new water-efficient fixtures and fittings, efficient light fittings and ground works management to avoid adulterating a potentially contaminated soil on a reclaimed site.

Monash University Pharmacy Teaching Space

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences refurbishment on Level 1 of the Scott Building created six, flat-floor, 30-capacity teaching spaces to support a new vertical double-degree. The main thoroughfares were converted to glazed walls with feature film to promote engagement across the rooms. Inter-connectivity of the rooms added to the interactive and collaborative nature of the learning space.

An initial demolition and strip-out of the space encountered numerous latent conditions that Alchemy Construct was able to overcome with pro-active input, proposed services and architectural solutions, whilst still meeting the original construction programme with its ‘non-negotiable’ completion date.

Doutta Stars Pavilion

To support the growth of women and girls football in the area, Moonee Valley City Council approved redevelopment works at Buckley Park that included much needed upgrades and an extension to the Doutta Stars Pavilion.

The scope sought to improve the existing conditions by providing new amenities to meet current standards, upgrades of the existing first aid room, umpire room and the bar/lounge amenities, the construction of new ‘home’ and ‘away’ change rooms, a new pergola and associated tiered spectator seating. The increased capacity required coordination of new infrastructure utilities, re-routing existing inground services, and a new sports field tower light. Tapping into the existing water main required a partial road closure and traffic management for local residents.

Thomas Embling Hospital (Forensicare)

Thomas Embling Hospital (Forensicare)

Located within inner city Melbourne, Thomas Embling Hospital is a high-security forensic mental health hospital, providing care and treatment for people living with serious mental illness.

With significant growth in forensic patients and part of a wider upgrade of the facility, Alchemy was engaged to complete the nurse station and ensuite refurbishment works within the secure hospital.

With a high emphasis on occupational health and safety, the team ensured strong communication with Forensicare, notifying and gaining approval prior to invasive and interruptive works. Due to the high-security nature of the facility, stringent project plans, protocols and staging were implemented to minimise disruption to the facility and ensure a smooth programme of work for patients, staff and subcontractors within the live health environment.

The project scope involved upgrades to the lounge, nurse station and ensuites in the Argyle Unit, upgrades to the lounge, nurse station and ensuites in the Atherton Unit and building extension works, DDA and Bariatric works in the Canning Unit.
